My Story
My Story
Kimonoso is a slow fashion label made by me Renee in the outskirts of Sydney, Australia.
In 2018, on my first journey to Japan, I discovered something that would stay with me long after I returned home—the extraordinary beauty of Japanese textiles.
I brought home just one kimono for myself. But that single piece sparked an idea.
With a lifelong love of sewing and a background in designing and creating garments for my own children’s clothing business, I began to imagine what I could create with these remarkable fabrics. I was drawn to their colour, texture, intricate patterns and, above all, the craftsmanship behind every piece.
Later that year, I returned to Japan with a new purpose: to discover and source beautiful kimonos and yukata that could be reimagined for a new generation.
And Kimonoso was born.
I see each kimono as more than a beautiful garment. It is a piece of artistry, craftsmanship and history. Rather than allowing these exquisite textiles to remain hidden away, I carefully deconstruct and transform them into contemporary pieces designed to be worn, treasured and enjoyed again.
My designs celebrate the contrast between old and new, honoring the traditional beauty of Japanese textiles while giving them a modern expression.
Every fabric has its own story. Every pattern, colour and detail is a reminder of the hands and traditions that created it.
At Kimonoso, I hope to continue that story by creating something new from something beautiful.
Traditional Japanese textiles. Reimagined for modern life.
